Thrifty Car Rental
You may not know this but Thrifty is much larger than most people realize. There is a Dollar-Thrifty Automotive Group which is publicly traded and has the ticker symbol NYSE: DTG. This is a holding company for both Thrifty Car Rental and Dollar Rent a Car. A little history for you, the holding company was formed in 1990 by Chrysler which was spun off seven years later. Some more Trivia is that they also owned Snappy Rent a Car, Eurodollar and General Rent a Car. The headquarters is Tulsa, Oklahoma.

More on Thrifty’s History
Thrifty Car Rental was founded in 1958 and it became a public company in 1987. When Chrysler acquired it the year was 1989. That is when it merged with Dollar Rent a Car. Since 2007 it has been controlled by Jeremy M. Smith. They have both corporate owned locations as well as franchise locations. Some brands have either only corporate owned stores such as Starbucks and others have predominantly franchisees such as Subway. It is nice to know that the corporation also owns and operates locations as they will have a better feel for what their customers go through on a daily basis. Keeping their ear to the ground, so to speak, allows them to be in touch with the customer and the ever changing needs of travelers. This strategy has allowed them to grow to 1,028 locations in 68 countries.
Blue Chip Express Rental Program
This is Thrifty’s rewards program, it is free and makes your rental process much faster, Thrifty I should say. The Blue Chip system is utilized by tourists and frequent local renters as well as business travelers who need a fast rental experience and do not have time to waste. For every 16 rentals you get one free. Customers also have the option of adding airline miles instead. Some airlines used in the Blue Chip Rewards Program include American Airlines, Air Canada, Aeromexico, Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Qantas, and United Airlines.
